Watch The Video
What a you looking at? God, how do I love that intro. Followed by a seductive synth and that clicking. A drum and then THE line. Strike a pose.

Madonna has made many classics (duh) but "Vogue" is without a doubt my favourite. It emcompasses everything I love about Madonna's music. It's dancey, it's poppy, it's celebratory, it's fun, it's life-affirming music at it's best. I'm not exactly sure how she did, but she crafted the finest piece of pop music. As she says, "don't just stand there, let's get to it. Vogue." Who hasn't had the impulsive desire to get up and dance. To strike a pose? It doesn't matter if you make an ass of yourself, but it matters that you "let your body groove to the music." The video atests to this fact.

I remember seeing this video clip multiple times every weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday shows on "Video Hits" as well as Rage. I had it taped on VHS along with my other favourite videos and watch it a lot. I had seen a few Madonna clips before "Vogue" (mostly from her Like a Prayer album and some others that my mum had on VHS) but this was the first one that I got who MADONNA was. The video clip is great, one of my top 5, directed by David Fincher.

My favourite part of the song is actually the tribute to the golden era. "Greta Garbo and Monroe. Deitrich and Demagio..." I don't know why. It's just awesome.

So seriously, do as Madonna says and "Get up on the dance floor!" You know you want to.

How did I know #1 was going to be Madonna?

Great pick though, this track is super-fun. My favorite part of the song is particularly the beginning, where it starts to build up towards the "Strike a pose" repetition. I probably don't make sense, so nevermind.

Great job! Accomplishment! Lists really do blow my mind; I'm so completely incapable of managing them. I only can stand in awe of you who manage. You actually got me listening to Bjork's Homogenic again this morning on my way to work, and "Joga" stands as my fave off of that ablum, with "Bachlerotte" and "Hunter" right on its heels.

Oh, also, there's far, far too much of my brain taken up with having had that "rap" Madonna does in the middle of "Vogue" memorized since Junior High School. Which is now promptly running through my mind again. Greta Garbo, Fred Astaire... sigh... yes, yes, Ginger's still walking on air... I need an aspirin.

Indeed, Glenn renewed my love for Björk's music. I'm listening to "Post" and "Debut" almost all the time now.

Nice choice. You must really love the beginning of that Meryl-as-Miranda video even more than I thought.

Vogue IS an absolutely orgasmically brilliant song! I love how she rhymes all the names with each other, as you said.

This woman's got cool.
