Underrated Movie of the Week
Titus, 1999, dir. Julie Taymor, starring Anthony Hopkins, Jessica Lange, Alan Cumming, Harry Lennix, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Colm Feore, Matthew Rhys, Angus Macfadyen, Constantine Gregory, Laura Fraser & Osheen Jones
I adore this movie and the source material (one of Shakespeare's best, IMO.) This should have swept the Oscars' technical prizes (it got one nod for Canonero's Costuming I believe.)
I hate that closing shot though; I don't know what kind of statement Taymor is making, but it still plays as ill-conceived.

Stale Popcorn, noun, 1. A veritable cornucopia of movie geekdom, celebrity worship, Australian film discussion and all with occasional musical interludes! All wrapped up in the salty buttery taste of movie popcorn that's been sitting in the box for too long. What's not to love?
Everything that is written on this webpage - Stale Popcorn and any tangents from it - is written by me, Glenn Dunks, unless otherwise stated. Love the movie and the script, not sure how I feel about it awards-wise though. Certainly good work by Hopkins, Lange, and Rhys-Davies.
Great, now i want to go rewatch it.
Well, I'm with Ali. It definitely should have at least been nominated for Art Direction and MakeUp alongside it's Costume nomination.
