Cartoon Brew reports that Arthur and the Invisibles (or, Arthor and the Minimoys depending on where you live) has been deemed ineligible for the Best Animated Feature contest because it's less than 75% animation. Oh well, now it's just a battle over Over the Hedge and Monster House for that third and final spot (the other two are surely going to Happy Feet and Cars). But can we really rule out another Shark Tale situation by having Ice Age 2: The Meltdown get nominated purely because it made $200mil.
Anyway...

Reading your post, it has just occurred to me that I have not seen a single animated film this year. I'll try to seek out Happy Feet before it leaves theaters (even though singing penguins are not my idea of a good time) and rent Monster House.
I might be forgetting things, but can you remind me why there can't be five nominees in the Animated Feature category? I remember prior years when this was so...
Oh, there needs to be 16 animated films submitted to the Academy in order for there to be five nominees. There were 16 films this year including Arthur, but now that that has been disqualified, the number is 15 which means there can only be three.

This sucks so bad! In a year when so many animated films were released, a stupid AMPAS rule narrows the category slots to 3! Happy Feet will be there, the overrated Cars is assured, and there's some bloody battle for the 3th spot, amogst Monster House, Ice Age 2, and the brilliant Over the Hedge.
Bye, bye (again) chances for adult animated fare. Sucks, sucks, sucks.
I wouldn't blame Arthur but Doogal instead who was 100% animated but in a retarded move, it wasn's submitted for qualification. Fuck.
