Best Actress

Before I go to bed, let me just say this: This will be the best lead female performance of the year from my perspective. Without a doubt. Seal the deal and carve her name into the statue. I can't see how this performance can be beaten for me. Of course, Oscar will be a different story, but, really. WOW!

I LOVE YOU GLENN.

I felt the exact same way a few weeks ago. And then I saw Gretchen Mol in The Notorious Bettie Page.

I'm tempted to just call a tie and end my misery. It's just too painful.

(Oh, and that's not even anticipating Judi Dench in Notes on a Scandal.)

Such an amazing year for actresses - why couldn't some of these movies have come out last year?

I agree. 2006 is almost making up for the lack of a strong Best Actress line-up last year. Cruz was terrific, IMO, saw this last night. It's sad that Mirren (who's also great) is winning EVERYTHING in such a strong year.

So you finally saw this? I actually thought it'd take even longer to get to Aussieland.

Best of the year, huh? I wouldn't necessarily go THAT far, but yeah, I'm glad she's getting nominated for oscar.

Adam, its not out here for another week, but I saw an advance screening. Same for Babel. That's not out until Dec26.

Wait, Glenn, have you actually seen The Queen? I mean, to be fair...

I haven't Adam, but I'm naturally prone to liking a vibrant sexy star turn than a dowdy real-to-life turn by a Dame. It's fact. It's science. Deal with it.
