Nudge Wink

You know, that wishlist widget in the sidebar is there for a reason. It's my birthday in six days and I feel oddly non-fussed by it. I was hoping to go into Melbourne and see the sing-a-long version of Hairspray, but I don't think that's going to pan out. Also, I'm oddly fascinated by maltesers at the moment. I just can't. stop. eating them. They've taken over my desk! I even took a photo just for the sake of taking one and am now showing you!

And then I was reminded of when I was in NYC last year and I was walking down... Broadway? I'm not sure. I think it was opposite Macy's! Of Bloomingdales! Or some building that had a sign on it, I'm not entirely sure. But, anyway, I was walking down this street in New York City (my, how I love remember I was ever in that city) and saw:

THE LARGEST PACKET OF SKITTLES I HAD EVER SEEN

So, naturally, I took a photo, which doesn't even begin to describe how giant that packet of skittles was. When the brother saw the photo on the tiny little camera screen he was all "Christ, that's a big bag of skittles!" Correct he was. Oh, and here's the photo.

Lastly in this entirely random and, for the most part, incoherent gargle of wasted words, I am considering shaving my head. Not entirely bald because, er, not even I want to see my scalp. Buuuut, I've been thinking about it and was going to ask some friends last night as I remembered my hairdresser appointment on Tuesday but they (and I) had been drinking and, well, that's not a decision to make when consuming alcohol. But, yeah, not bald. Just really cropped short? Like, er... Rob Thomas? I dunno. Who else has that style? I dunno.

I'm terrible though. The reason I never ever do anything out of the ordinary with my hair is because I fear if it goes wrong then I have at least one month of being stuck with a bad haircut and there's nothing I could do about it. I think it's a legitimate concern, don't you? Hmmmph. DILEMMAS!

I think I'm gonna go to sleep now because I'm acting weird. Before I go, here is a picture of my boyfriend sticking his tongue out at Undertow director David Gordon Green. Uh-huh.

Things I Did Today

  • Ate an apple.

  • Saw two good movies.

  • Met Greg McLean.

  • Ate a hotdog with fries and a cherry coke at that crazy '50s diner on Toorak and Chapel

  • Watched Geelong kick arse in the footy and win by over 100 points.

  • Napped.

  • Got sick.

  • Saw what I never though I would, with someone singing The Gossip's "Standing in the Way of Control" on Australian Idol

  • Cooked pasta.

And that's about it, really.

The Meme That Won't Die!!!

This is now the third time I've been tagged for that meme where you have yo reveal 8 facts about myself. Geez.

1. My worst birthday ever was when I turned 19 and I had Bells Palsy. On my actual birthday I couldn't eat anything because I had to go to hospital and get scans on my brain. I was majorly down in the dumps that day. Bells Palsy is not something fun to have.

2. I have a framed copy of Prince's Purple Rain on vinyl hanging on my wall.

3. I'm allergic to hazlenuts and walnuts. I go into anaphylaxis (specifically angioedema) whenever I come into contact with them.

4. My favourite flavour of Baskin Robbins ice-cream is Chocolate Mousse Royale.

5. I'm really into Dignity by Hilary Duff at the moment. It's better than the last album by Paul McCartney, thank you very much.

6. Earlier today I had a really great nap. It was the greatest moment of all time.

7. I love Chloe Sevigny and two years ago I saw her walking down a Melbourne street. She was in town for the Melbourne Cup and she was in the city doing shopping and she was surrounded by guards and I saw her and I nearly yelled out at her, but I chose not to.

8. Bride of Chucky is hilarious and if you don't like it then you're dead inside.

I'm not tagging anyone (again), because I don't want to inflict that on people.

The 8 Things Meme

So, I'm feeling a little bit worse for ware today (getting ridiculously drunk can do that to you) so I thought I'd use the time to do this meme that I got tagged with doing by My New Plaid Pants' resident blogger Ja. The soul point of the meme is merely to state eight things about myself that you guys wouldn't know. I've done this thing before.

The rules:

1. All right, here are the rules.
2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
3. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
4. People who are tagged write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
5. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

1. I'm pretty sure I drank an entire bottle of Smirnoff last night, yet I still don't have a hangover (just a tired body). I only get hangovers from wine and especially goon. I'm surprised I could get to sleep last night considering the amount of red bull I also had. Too many Vodka+RedBulls and too many Jagerbombs.

2. I had a dream two nights ago that Adam was best friends with a good mate of mine (Simon) and I got all snarky at him for stealing my friends and for getting to see Inland Empire with an introduction by David Lynch himself. I have weird dreams.

3. The parents of my best friend Georgie have this friend who looks like Margaret Pomeranz (the famous film critic). She was meant to be at Georgie's 21st earlier this year and I was planning on going up to her (whilst incredibly drunk) and ask for an autograph as a joke. Alas, she was sick or she died or she got turned into a monkey or something and she didn't end up going. I was... disappointed.

4. When I was at work yesterday I nearly yelled at this old lady because she kept calling me "boy" and saying things like "That's a good boy" whenever I did something she approved of like I was a dog or a circus freak. IK sort of really like yelling at customers, but only when they've yelled at me first because then it's entirely justified.

5. (this one is a response on one of the eight things Ja discussed in his meme reply) When I was in America last year I drank Diet Peach Ice Tea Snapple like it was going out of style. When my family was there earlier this year I asked them to bring me back some but it only comes in glass bottles and they wouldn't have been able to bring it back. I was majorly shattered. I also went to this store in my city that sells American foods and drinks, but they're unable to get it shipped in. They can get more Dr Pepper than anybody has any idea what to do with it, but they can't get in a one lousy carton of snapple. Ugh!

6. I hate Peter Everitt. You know, the one from Ready! Steady! Cook! I get so uncomfortable watching him on that show. He's always touching the chefs. Plus, he's really stupid. Take this exchange from when I accidentlally caught a bit of the program last week (or whenever it was recently).

"What's this?"
"Basil"

I know, right?!

7. After seeing The Breakfast Club during my high school years I always held out hope that my detentions would end up like they did in the movie (one of my all time favourites, by the way). Alas, it was always really really boring being in detention.

8. It's nearly tax time. Which'll be good because I have a credit card that I'd like to get fully paid off sometime this year.

I'm meant to tag eight other people, but I can't be bothered. If you wanna do it then you can. Blah.

Here I Am!

So, my day has been interesting. Here's an equally interesting (...) rundown.

I woke up at 10 and went to the shops to buy a paper. There was a funny article about Germaine Greer. Doesn't she ever shup up? Don't newspapers get sick of writing about how she never shuts up?

At 11.30 I went into town with my friend Hannah. I had to film her getting her ear pierced for, like, the tenth time. She got one done and I was all "Is that it?" and then the piercer (Clare, she's really nice) brought out a big motha of a needle and said there was a second one. It was huge. I wasn't too crash hot on the filming thing in the first place, and then I saw what I was filming (my friend likes to keep the... memories) I closed my eyes. I have a big thing against medical stuff. Like, I could watch countless ultra-gory horror movies, but once there's things that are like surgery I just can't handle it. Needles being injected? Ugh. Hell, even the piano wire sequence in Audition was unbearable (other than that movie just being woeful in general). I can't watch any medical shows on TV like ER or RPA (well, except Grey's Anatomy, strangely). I couldn't even listen to my friends discuss disecting a frog in High School. And it's not because I have a history with hospitals. I've never actually been a patient in one. It just makes me queasy.

Anyway.

After that we ran into our friend Agi and we went to lunch at this organic restaurant and met up with Emma. It was nice, I suppose. Why are organic restaurants always so tiny? The focaccia I got was good, but had too much beetroot. Like, hold the freakin' beetroot! Some of it is nice but not an entire garden.

After that we saw Notes on a Scandal (2006, dir. Eyre), which was sort of hilarious. Judi Dench was brilliant. Cate, not so much. I just loved the completely over-the-top melodramatic lunacy that ensued. You know what else there was a lot of? Lots of shots of stairs! Upwards, downwards, sideways, under, over, any which way. Richard Eyre really liked filming characters walking up, down, sitting on, looking up at and standing underneath stairs! They were everywhere! Turn around and, oh look! Another flight of stairs! Turn around again. Ta-dah! More stairs. It was frightening the amount of stairs there were! Still, it was enjoyable. By the last half hour I was laughing my arse off. "HERE I AM!! HERE I AAAAMMM!!!!!" What a hoot. "You're not young!" Talk about LOL. Shame that Phillip Glass' score was ridiculously omnipresent. It was like the stairs. I almost can see them saying "No scene shall not include the score turned up to 11!" Anyway. I think I'm gonna scream "HERE I AM!!" everytime I enter a room now for the next few days. B.

While we were at the cinema we saw all these posters for Pan's Labyrinth!!!! Hannah and I were going to head up to Melbourne just to see it (before the oscars), but it's out as of tomorrow. All the posters had big signs attached reading "STARTS FEB 22" which is tomorrow! OMG. So, naturally, we're seeing it tomorrow. Can't wait. Agi was totally pumped to. She and her boyfriend were also going to go to Melbourne just to see it.

Anyway.

Then I came home and Blogger finally asked me to swap over to the new thing. Everytime I tried it told me I couldn't, but now it did. So... yay? I dunno. Am I gonna have to go through and add labels to every post? Oy...

Nine Weird Things About Me.

I got tagged (THANKS A LOT, EMMA!), so here we go. Nine weird things about me. Some of these things may already be apparent in my writings, but hopefully not. And while some of them are just weird freaky things there are indeed some that are quite embarassing. Eep.

1. I have the uncanny ability to look at digital clocks at exactly 12:34. Seriously, no kidding. It only happens twice a day, but best bet is I'll catch it at both instances.

2. I have a secret crush on Steve Carell. OMG, I have no idea why cause he's not exactly the most aesthetically pleasing guy out there. I think it's his adorableness.

3. I hate dairy. I hate cheese (unless it's on a pizza) and drinking milk, eating yoghurt and all that stuff just... no. But, cheese is the worst. I wanna gag whenever i taste it. Gross.

4. I have a big giant massive phobia of bees and wasps. So much so that just the other day when a bee flew in front of my face I nearly had a full on panic attack right out in the open with other people around. And once when one landed on me at work I had to stop working because I was so freaked out.

5. I turned The Da Vinci Code off half way through because it was making me sleepy. It is so bad. I had to return the DVD to the shop, but I put it on my computer so I'll try and watch the rest of it later.

6. I have a date on Saturday night. Like, a dinner-and-a-movie type date. How odd. His name is Nick, which is hilarious to me because I've had three crushes in the past all with the name Nick (or Nic in one case, but that's details).

7. One of my top 5 lines of dialogue is "I've got towels!" from Showgirls right after Nomi tells her black dancer friend that they can't have sex cause she's got her period. So romantic, non?

8. I own a Spirited Away fan! My friend in LA gave it to me as a present when I visited her over there. She also gave me a Van Helsing action figure that looks nothing like Hugh Jackman. But I can imagine. Oh yes, I can.

9. I'm gonna go watch Freedomland now. I... am not anticipating greatness.

Apparently I need to tag nine others! Crikies. Umm... How about, Adam K, Ali, Javier (to get out of his writing funk), Mike, Cal, Drew, Ramification, David and Simon. Sorry.
