A Change Will Do You Good

Just as Sheryl Crow hypothesised many years ago, a change will do me good. From October 14 this blog will indeed be changing. Nothing terribly drastic, just a new URL is all. The new blog will be this one << clicky clicky! Obviously this present encarnation of Stale Popcorn will continue to exist on the information super highway (how long has it been since you heard that?) and I will be regularly linking back to entries, much like I do now, but I have decided the time has come to make this crazy thing more formal.

So, yes, on October 14 - the same date as the start of my 100 Greatest Movie Posters countdown - the new home of Stale Popcorn will be http://stalepopcornau.blogspot.com bookmark it or whatever it is that you do and I hope to see you there.

This will be probably be my last entry on this URL as I have places to go, people to see and things to do between now and then (it is my birthday on Saturday after all). Come next week it will be:

STALE POPCORN 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO

Or something like that. Ciao.

Word Verify finally has it's rewards (also, My Hair! My Hair!)

I was over at My New Plaid Pants replying, quite obviously, to an entry about Arcade Fire when I came across this lovely word verification tag. For far too long I have had to enter ungodly combinations of letters like "pdajhdfffcm" and not enough with actual words like the one below. It made me giggle, like whenever somebody has a word that isn't meant to be rude but has rude connotations.

Kind of scary though was that at the moment I realised the VV said "rump" I was listening to Pete Shelley's "Homosapien" on iTunes. If you are unaware of that 1981 song (from Shelley's Homosapien album) it was actually banned on the BBC due to homosexual suggestions in the lyrics. "Homo superior in my interior", anyone?

And, yes, as the image states, I did cut my hair off. It's only a "four" at the moment. If I decide I like it (i'm still not entire sure, but it thankfully wasn't the disaster I was anticipating) I could even go shorter down to a "two". Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps...

Dodgy photo, but for now it's all I'm posing for right now.

I can't type

Seriously. My fingers just keep pressing the wrong keys. Thankfully, I have nothing to say, so it's alright. I can't think of anything to write about. So, to give the illusion that I've taken longer than one minute to think of something for this blog over the last two days, here's Silverchair's "Straight Lines" video clip.

Hugh Are You?

So, today has been one of the busiest days in Stale Popcorn history (and it's only 8pm, lol). I was all "why has my readership suddenly spiked by an extra 200 people", but through some investigating I discovered that I have to thank Hugh Jackman (does he ever stop giving?). Turns out that photo I posted of Hugh in his Viva Laughlin! garb was picked up by some of my fellow Hugh devotees over at the Media Blvd forums. So, to those people, firstly y'all have good taste, and secondly stick around! I discuss Hugh Jackman regularly. And just because I'm never one to pass up an opportunity, not only is there a new Hugh-centric banner, here are also a bunch of pictures of Hugh in full-on sexy mode (when is he ever not?)

FUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate Blogger so much right now.

The new blogger

So, I think I've finished the conversion over to the new blogger. I need to add labels to everything, which will take a while, but other than that. There one thing bugging me.

I can't add pictures down the sidebar like I used to. I can't put a picture under a heading and, for whatever reason, I can't seem to centre them so they end up looking like that Little Miss Sunshine image there, just sitting there as if without purpose and/or structure.

Here I Am!

So, my day has been interesting. Here's an equally interesting (...) rundown.

I woke up at 10 and went to the shops to buy a paper. There was a funny article about Germaine Greer. Doesn't she ever shup up? Don't newspapers get sick of writing about how she never shuts up?

At 11.30 I went into town with my friend Hannah. I had to film her getting her ear pierced for, like, the tenth time. She got one done and I was all "Is that it?" and then the piercer (Clare, she's really nice) brought out a big motha of a needle and said there was a second one. It was huge. I wasn't too crash hot on the filming thing in the first place, and then I saw what I was filming (my friend likes to keep the... memories) I closed my eyes. I have a big thing against medical stuff. Like, I could watch countless ultra-gory horror movies, but once there's things that are like surgery I just can't handle it. Needles being injected? Ugh. Hell, even the piano wire sequence in Audition was unbearable (other than that movie just being woeful in general). I can't watch any medical shows on TV like ER or RPA (well, except Grey's Anatomy, strangely). I couldn't even listen to my friends discuss disecting a frog in High School. And it's not because I have a history with hospitals. I've never actually been a patient in one. It just makes me queasy.

Anyway.

After that we ran into our friend Agi and we went to lunch at this organic restaurant and met up with Emma. It was nice, I suppose. Why are organic restaurants always so tiny? The focaccia I got was good, but had too much beetroot. Like, hold the freakin' beetroot! Some of it is nice but not an entire garden.

After that we saw Notes on a Scandal (2006, dir. Eyre), which was sort of hilarious. Judi Dench was brilliant. Cate, not so much. I just loved the completely over-the-top melodramatic lunacy that ensued. You know what else there was a lot of? Lots of shots of stairs! Upwards, downwards, sideways, under, over, any which way. Richard Eyre really liked filming characters walking up, down, sitting on, looking up at and standing underneath stairs! They were everywhere! Turn around and, oh look! Another flight of stairs! Turn around again. Ta-dah! More stairs. It was frightening the amount of stairs there were! Still, it was enjoyable. By the last half hour I was laughing my arse off. "HERE I AM!! HERE I AAAAMMM!!!!!" What a hoot. "You're not young!" Talk about LOL. Shame that Phillip Glass' score was ridiculously omnipresent. It was like the stairs. I almost can see them saying "No scene shall not include the score turned up to 11!" Anyway. I think I'm gonna scream "HERE I AM!!" everytime I enter a room now for the next few days. B.

While we were at the cinema we saw all these posters for Pan's Labyrinth!!!! Hannah and I were going to head up to Melbourne just to see it (before the oscars), but it's out as of tomorrow. All the posters had big signs attached reading "STARTS FEB 22" which is tomorrow! OMG. So, naturally, we're seeing it tomorrow. Can't wait. Agi was totally pumped to. She and her boyfriend were also going to go to Melbourne just to see it.

Anyway.

Then I came home and Blogger finally asked me to swap over to the new thing. Everytime I tried it told me I couldn't, but now it did. So... yay? I dunno. Am I gonna have to go through and add labels to every post? Oy...

February 15, 2007

Sorry guys

But I had to turn word verification on. That spam was just getting ridiculous.

I was so against putting that on because I hate it usually with it's crazy fonts and ridiculous lengths sometimes, but that's the deal.

And so this post has something positive to it...

ummm...

Thanks

So, for some reason, the numbers of people coming here to Stale Popcorn in the last few days has been substantially higher (in comparison to what it was before, so at the moment it's still pretty miniscule), but my StatCounter account is telling me that 50%, from a random selection of 100 readers, are from an unknown and unidentified resource. I'm wondering where they're coming from. Anybody have any ideas.

Anyway, stick around. It's pretty cool around here. Unless you're that person who sent me hate mail for ragging on Hilary Swank. That was strange.

Blogger = WTF?

So I was all set to transfer over to the new Blogger and then I click the link and it says I'm not eligible or some bull like that. Oh well. I've got the hang of this Blogger so I don't care. Still... they're idiots.

30,000

Sometime in the small hours of an American Christmas morning, ala my Boxing Day, my counter passed the illustrious number of 30,000. That may seem like small fries to some people, but that's pretty amazing to me. Especially considering I only had about five regulars for the first few months. So, umm... thanks a bunch! I would like to thank the Academy for making me start this lil ol' blog in the first place. To celebrate I've made a collage... of hot male celebrities. If you're not of that pursuasion (straight woman, gay man) then here's a hot chick for you - I can't have unhappy customer's can I? teehee.

[it does grow... slightly]

Quick note

For some reason, Blogger's not letting me comment on other people's blogs. Like, it keeps asking me to sign in and I do but it says it's wrong. :/

edit: I decided to actually convert to Beta... and then it told me I couldn't. And that was that. I still can't comment on other people's blogs because Blogger logs me out periodically and I need to relog in. When I do it on my own blog it works, but not on others. So... I dunno. At least I can still post here.

Thanks

Dear Stale Popcorn readers,

I'm not entirely sure why, but today was the most visited day of this blog since it's inception (it's nearly one entire year. crikies!) So thanks to all the people who have stuck around. And to any new people, thanks too. And stick around. I'll give you candy. Or if you don't live in Geelong then I'll just send you good vibrations (the Beach Boy AND Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch variety). Oh, and make sure you check out some of links in the sidebar. They're all good or else I wouldn't link them.

In a couple of weeks I would have completely finished all my school assignments, which means I'll have more time to do more things like fully fleshed movie reviews, more Cinema of the Absurd entries (they take upwards of five hours to do hence I don't do them very often), more UMA presentations as well as more general shenanigans.

So, yeah, stick around. As initial incentive I've thrown you a bone (er, take that however you want) and given you a smokin' picture of Paul Newman in his hey day (and what a might fine day that was, AM I RIGHT? RIGHT!) And if you don't stay... well, don't tell me I didn't warn you (see below).

Love,

Glenn

I'm Oprah and you will forever be in the path of my eternal scorn. Y'all understand me? I'm so badass.

Google Me

Just cause I'm procastinating doing homework (again), here are the most recent Google searches that have resulted in people finding Stale Popcorn.

"starkey mp3 hey bang bang"

"victoria Thaine nude"

"oh mein papa lyrics robert gilbert"

"i will be the flame midi 80s"

"first ten best pictures of popcorn"

"romper stomper sex scene clip"

"k.k. barrett interview marie antoinette"

...riiight.

omg, I'm listening to "I'll Be Your Shelter" by Taylor Dayne right now. Remember her?

Sidebar

So, I finally got around to finishing rejuvinating the sidebar to your right. Now, if I forgot to put your blog or site on there (and you know I visit your site) let me know. If you'd like me to add it on there, again, let me know. My contacts are now at the top (email and myspace) so it's easy as pie. Also, now if I rewatch a movie I will put in a bracket the number of viewings denoted by (x#). Of course, I have no freakin' idea how many times I've watched Scream. It's definitely around 100. I swear I watched that movie ever day of my school holidays in 1997 when my brother bought a VHS copy. That and The Lion King are definitely my most watched movies ever. The numbers are scarily high.

Now, I need to do some homework. Bleh.

Usted aprende algo nuevo cada día

Hah! How do you like that! I can speak spanish (er, not really). But, I say the topic in Spanish because I was perusing around my StatCounter.com account just now and finding out some interesting facts about my readers. They took a random sample of 100 readers and came up with these results.

24 are from Australia
21 are from the USA
13 are from the UK
12 are from Canada
4 are from India
4 are untracable
3 are from Spain
3 are from Slovenia (whoa. go slovenia!)
2 are from the United Arab Emirates
2 are from Denmark
2 are from Croatia
2 are from Singapore
1 is from China
1 is from the Philipines
1 is from Germany
1 is from Uruguay
1 is from Finland
1 is from Poland
1 is from Ireland
1 is from Sweden

How bloody interesting!!

And it gets even more Fatal Attraction.

Of the people from Australia, 8 are from Sydney and 5 are from Melbourne and the rest are unknown.

From the States, there are three Georgians and three Rhode Islanders (including somebody who goes to Brown University, and whenever I think "Brown University" I just have to quote The Simpsons - "Oh no! Not BROWN!" teehee. We quote that all the time whenever we play Trivial Pursuit). Five from New York, two from Florida and another two from California. One from Massachusetts, District of Columbia, Illinois, Washington and Minnesota.

There are 9 British Columbians and one from Ontario and Quebec for good measure.

The two Croatians are from Grad Zagreb. Two of the Spaniads are from Cataluña and the other is from The Canary Islands. And it keeps going on like that. How crazy. Oh, that crazy Uruguay person? Who on earth could that be? I've never heard of this "Montevideo" before.

:P

All those people and I'm all the way down hear in the very south of Australia. I love everyone and I want to jump into Jupiter and make love to it.

...Wait, what?

And I Am Telling You (I Hate Blogger)

So... I clicked on my blog before only to find it had vanished before my very eye. I could see the banner (which is new btw), but that was it. No sidebar, no posts. Instead, all I could see was the beginning of an entry that had some weird HTML code and that was it. I officially started freaking out.

I went to the template and I found that, like, two thirds of it was completely gone.

So I reselected my template and now it's working again but, alas, I have no sidebar. Which is a major bummer because that shit took up my time, y'all!

Anyway. I'll try and fix it later. Right now I'm not in the mood, and in a few hours I'm seeing A Prairie Home Companion.

BTW, Just to let you know - my posting on here will be very very eratic in the next few days. I am busy actually having a social life (who knew?) As you may (or may not?) know, it is my birthday this Friday (the 13th. Yes. I know.) I turn 21, which actually sounds really big and major, but it's not because we can already do everything legally here so that doesn't really bother me. But I am having a little bash so I'll need to focus some time to that. Plus, a friend of mine from Perth (omg Jo!) is coming all the way and so I sorta have to be hospitable, which means little time for computers and blogging (unheard of!). So, until Monday posting will be scarce. And I can't even tell y'all to visit the blogs on the sidebar because they don't exist anymore. :(

I don't like people.

Oh, and lastly. I received some hate mail the other day (again!) This time in relation to my Hilary Swank bashing. LOLZ.

umm...

...what has happened to my blog?
