Bad Evening

(Firstly, sorry about the lack of updates these last few days, but I've been researching a project and have had work and yada blah et cetera. Learn to deal. If Mandy Moore can do it, so you can too!)

I know others have probably mentioned the new film Evening, which has one of the most amazing casts you're likely to see projected onto a big white screen. I can't really remember anyone discussing the trailer (view it below). And if they did, I'm not sure whether they hated it with the burning fire of a thousand suns. Cause I'm fairly sure I do. I really want to see this movie (that cast!) but my god, what a terrible trailer.

With it's constant cutting back and forth between time periods, with it's Thomas Newman score, which just screams "CRY, GODAMMIT!" (and I love Thomas Newman. It is Thomas Newman, right? Sure sounds like him), to it's utterly absurd switching of background music to Dido's "White Flag" (honestly!) and then the weird way the narrator randomly pops up to say "Evening" at the end. Some of the clips they chose to include don't seem to make much sense. It could have been so much simpler and streamlined. It's a mess. I just hope the movie is not.

Oh, and does anyone else wanna throw up a little when Patrick Wilson (who I adore) gives that whole "that's our star" routine. Blegh. Anyway. Carry on.

Yeah, I saw this trailer before Waitress with an astonishingly bitter friend of mine and lived to regret saying I wanted to see the movie just as the trailer began, because MAN what a shitty trailer and she just skewered me for wanting to see it. I just had to mutter apologetically, "...but that cast!"

It really does make it look like some lame Hallmark tv movie, doesn't it? Just with an A-grade cast.

Does Patrick Wilson take his clothes off? That almost makes a movie substantially better.

Nat's got that shirtless shot of PW from the movie up on his front page so I guess we'll see at least that much skin. It does improve a movie's watchability ten fold.

Wow, Mamie Gummer is a dead ringer for a young Meryl Streep. When she first appeared, I honestly thought it was Meryl with "young" makeup or something.

Agree with the both of you; horrible trailer, but delicious cast. Which makes it a no-brainer.

I think it's a glorious trailer. It looks like a really good movie.
How can you go wrong with a cast THAT fantastic?? :)

Mamie Gummer floored with me how much she looked like her mother.

Pretty sure the period switching is the point of the movie. And the switch to Dido really makes it build in intensity. Fabulous trailer. Could be the best since The Hours, but that's a high bar...

oh, and that is meryl's daughter.
