Clubland poster

To the left here is a photo taken from Sundance of the poster for upcoming Aussie feature Clubland (Sourch). The film from director Cherie Nowlan (is she going to become another high profile female director?) stars Brenda Blethyn as a stand up comedian on the RSL circuit and the complications this has for her son (Khan Chittenden) and his new girlfriend (Emma Booth). It was purchased at Sundance for a cool $4mil by Warner Independent. There's a review of it over at First Showing that is very positive. It already has a score of 9.2 on IMDb, albeit, only from 12 votes. BUT WHATEVER! Even if it doesn't catch on in America (which I'm sure it won't - if stuff like The Proposition and Look Both Ways can't with exceptional reviews...) it seems like it will surely be a fixture at this year's AFI awards. Below are some more pictures from the film.

If anyone reading this lives in Sydney, the NSW premiere of the film will take place Saturday 18th March 2007 at the Ritz Cinema in Randwick, at 7:00pm. Cherie Nowlan and members of the cast will be on hand for a Q&A, and tickets are only $9 full price.

18th March is a Sunday - Is it on Saturday or Sunday?

Hey! Thanks for the links and all... Given the crowd reactions, even from people I'd talked to afterwards, everyone at Sundance loved it. Given non-Sundance American crowds may be different, let's hope it catches on!

Fortunately Warner Independent bought it (damn good decision) and I really like WIP, so I trust they'll do a great job getting the word out. Just look at Science of Sleep, that was an amazing film! And they did a great job distributing/publicizing it!

Umm, okay! What an interesting bunch of replies!

I hope this catches on in the US. That'd be swell. It's been a while.

Simon, are you gonna go?

I'm going to have to. I've been hanging out for this one for a little while. Although that's also the weekend Hot Fuzz comes out so I might be seeing that about eight times over the weekend as well.

I wonder if Brenda Blethyn will be there. If she is, ask her what the fuck Plots with a View was all about and then tell her she's awesome and that that silly movie where she got high a lot with the guy from The Drew Carey Show (from when it was actually good and before stupid Mimi married Drew's transvestite brother and Drew started dating every single good looking woman in Cleveland) was actually sorta entertaining and that I'm probably the only one who has that opinion.

...okay? Write it down.
