WOW
I did not see some of those things coming. Most notably no Dreamgirls for Best Picture. Just... wow. I'm sort of shocked. It got eight nominations, yet not Picture, Director or Screenplay nominations. Wow. Three of those nominations were for Original Song though, so that's sort of crazy.
Also, No Jack Nicholson! I'm excited about that, especially since Mark Wahlberg got in instead of him.
Letters From Iwo Jima with Picture, Director and Screenplay nominations? Wow. Eastwood has officially been crowned as God. And Paul Haggis makes it three in a row. How the fuck did that happen?
But, the biggest and saddest loss... No Volver for Best Foreign Language Film. What. The. Fuck. ???. Seriously. HUH? That makes no sense at all. That's crazy. Utterly crazy.
So very very happy to see Paul Greengrass nominated for Best Director, and the team behind Borat and Children of Men nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Happy Feet in Animated Film.
It was delightful to see Salma Hayek scream in delight for Penelope Cruz and then get choked up over the nominations for Babel and Pan's Labyrinth (which got one of the highest totals!)
Totally wild to see The Prestige up for two totally deserved nods. Same for THE BLACK DAHLIA!!!!!!!
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA FOR BEST COSTUME DESIGN!!!!!!
Click is officially an Oscar nominee! LOL. WTF?
Children of Men for Screenplay, Cinematography AND Editing. YES.
Wow.
The Academy definitely gave us some lovely presents this morning... but also stole some candy from some babies. I'll obviously write a more cohesive discussion later. But I'm really tired.

The Dreamgirls three songs things going to make for a fun batch of Oscar performances, but do you think they'll split (none have a precursor Globe to bank a frontrunner slot), and Melissa Etheridge will take the win for the bound to be Best Documentary An Inconvenient Truth? Also, the Globe winner for the third year in the row will not be in contention at the Oscars!
Yeah, that's crazy that it scored three noms. But, didn't The Little Mermaid and/or Beauty and the Beast get three noms too and still manage to win.
Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King were both nominated for three, Little Mermaid and Aladdin for two. All four ultimately won the Best Song Oscar. However, they all won for the song that had just won the Golden Globe, the highest profile of the Best Song nominees.
Why is everyone mocking Click's rightful nomination? The make-up there is great! Come one now!
