Two Words...

Two words that I am sick of hearing that just keep popping up all the time this year. They bug me. Really bug me.

"Comeback"
For me a comeback is when a person has been out of the spotlight for a longtime. This is usually the result of something that occured in their career (a flop album/movie will usually do it). Said person makes said comeback when they decide to, literally, come back and try to be a success again. The list of people who are apparently having "comebacks" this year are: Gwen Stefani (wtf? her last album was a hit and was still in the charts less than half a year ago), Christina Aguilera (her last album was huge so she took *gasp* time to make a good second album while in the meantime she got married and did some duets), Sharon Stone (she's had so many comebacks it part of her resume), Penelope Cruz (huh? She never left) and, the most bizarre of them all, Naomi Watts. Apparently King Kong was her big comeback... after, what? years in obscurity.

"Lock"
There are definitely some locks in this year's awards race. You just know it. But how anyone can say that four of the five Best Actress slots are "locked" or four of the Best Actor slots are "locks" or four of the Best Picture slots are "locked" or... well, you get the picture, is beyond. Me Nobody knows anything. And as we've seen many times in the past, there are perceived locks that, well, don't turn out to be quite as solid as people seemed to think. Just because it makes sense that they will nominate somebody, don't always assume they're locked. Yes, Helen Mirren is a lock, but then other than that there's no locks. It seems natural for them to nominate Judi Dench and Meryl Streep alongside, but will they vote in all three old dames (well, two Dames and a Yank) or decide to leave one off? And so on...

LOL!! I love cranky posts, and I totally agree with you about all those nonsense comebacks!! Especially because they're all crap; aside Sharon Stone and Naomi Watts, because I haven't seen their supposed comeback films yet, Gwent Stefani's and Christina Aguilera's albums are pure shit.

About the locks, yeah I guess sometimes they get annoying cuz everybody's been mouthing out loud as if everything they said is law. All we have now are signs and even if the signs are getting clearer and clearer as time goes by, we still don't have much.

Well, Eddie Murphy's really having a comeback of sorts, but the others are all shite. People try too hard to make everything a "story."
