I was just watching Oprah and saw a commercial for Ray Lawrence's Jindabyne. Could I be more excited? It all looks so good, from the cinematography to the acting (including Gabriel Byrne and Laura Linney amongst many Aussies) to the music (again by Paul Kelly I believe). This year is proving to be a great year for Australian film with stuff like Candy, The Caterpillar Wish and especially Ten Canoes. And there's still quite a lot to come, apparently. I saw a poster for Footy Legends when I was at the cinema last night, and that's always a good thing because it means it's actually getting advertised! Most Australian films (such as Ten Canoes) rely on reviews and word-of-mouth and not trailers and advertisements because they simply can't afford it.
Oh well. I put my trust in Ray Lawrence and have faith that Jindabyne is wonderful.
The only film being released in Australia this week of any worth is Hard Candy (2006, dir. Slade), which I a looking forward to seeing very much. Other than that we have Little Man and a New Zealand comedy called Sione's Wedding, which (to be honest) looks about as funny as a smack in the face. Intriguingly, the week's last release is Beyond the Sea. Yes, BEYOND THE SEA. That weird Kevin Spacey vanity project that was out nearly 2 years ago in America. For some unknown reason (probably the same reason it took Gerry over 2 years to reach us (or some ungodly amount of time like that. Elephant took 1 year) it just never got released here until now. It's actually getting advertising though, so who knows what they expect from it. Strange though.
That's all.

whoa, rewind there a minute, mister - you were watching oprah??? somebody has too much time on his hands...
ray lawrence + the lovely laura linney = much excitement here.
this is the first i've heard of 'footy legends' - any details?
The only details I know about Footy Legends i just wrote in an AFI preview. Not really sure of any other details, only the ones IMDb provides.
And yes, I was watching Oprah! I had just gotten home and there was nothing on. Plus, it featured Nate so that was a bonus.
Nice idea with this site its better than most of the rubbish I come across.
