Frears's The Queen to open New York Film Festival
Stephen Frears's new film, The Queen , will premiere on the opening night of the 44th New York Film Festival. Richard Peña, chairman of the festival's selection committee, announced that the film, which stars Helen Mirren and James Cromwell, would make its North American debut at the festival.
Written by Peter Morgan, The Queen is a comedic look at the U.K. royal family in the days following the the death of Princess Diana. Helen Mirren plays Queen Elizabeth II, and James Cromwell portrays Price Phillip. The film also stars Michael Sheen as Tony Blair and Sylvia Syms as the Queen Mother.
The New York Film Festival runs from September 29 to October 15. The complete schedule of films for the festival will be released in mid August.
