You learn some interesting things when loooking at the entire box-office chart.
Facts:
*The Devil Wears Prada made only $4000 or so less than Superman Returns did on a per theatre basis.
*Poseidon is somehow still making $4000 per threatre.
*So few small movies even crack $100,000 let alone $500,000 or even $1mil. One of my favourite films from last year, Look Both Ways has a stunning $70,241 gross.
*There's a movie called The Puffy Chair!
*Tsotsi made just under $3mil. That's sort've impressive.
*The World's Fastest Indian made more in Australia (with a population of 20mil) than it did in American (population nearly 300mil, right?)
*The last movie on the list (at #97) is called Coastlines and over the entire five-day weekend it made $120. That means maybe 12 people saw it over the entire long holiday. TWELVE. And that's at $10 a ticket. So if it's more per ticket then the number of people is even less.
Crikies.
