Australia's Highest Grossing Films of All Time

Found this great resource site. FINALLY I've found a site that has a tonne of information about Australian box-office. How's this for a bloody interesting fact. When adjusted for inflation, the #1 movie of all time is Gone With the Wind with an absolutely massive $831mil. Comparatively, second is The Sound of Music with an adjusted gross of $165mil. $831mil would be if (adjusted for inflation) Gone had grossed $8.3billion in America. Crazy.

I have a few minutes to spare until Platoon comes on so I thought I'd just post for your non-amusement, the list of highest grossing aussie films.

Interesting! Here's some thoughts:

Surely Australia is the only country to have a film about DRAG QUEENS & TRANSEXUALS in it's top 10, right?

Young Einstein? REALLY?! And Reckless Kelly! It's hard to believe Yahoo Serious was once considering box-office gold.

Seeing some of those titles on there makes me so happy. I did a write up for The Dish just before for my assignment and I really need to rewatch that movie. That was faaantastic. There's some other really great films if you go to the actual list.

How awesome that Moulin Rouge! is there? On our all-time list it's at #28 between, er, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Lion King.

The Quiet American? umm... no The Phantom? ditto. Was their criteria only films made in Australia? Or by Australians or what? Odd that those two should appear. Where's The Matrix if Queen of the Damned and Ghost Ship are on there? One I don't get is Three to Tango (1999). How is that even remotely Australian?

Kokoda currently sits at #93 but with any luck should be able to reach at least #60.

The entire 439 title-long list. #439 is some random title I've never heard of called Powderburn. It made a hilarious $1,500. Colour me impressed.
