It Is Accomplished

Please be aware that Stale Popcorn has changed URLs. It's the same ol' blog just a different address. OMG don't be such a bitch about it!

As a parting gift here is a track from the new Sugababes album Change. It's called "Surprise" and it's amazing. See you on the other side.

Attack of the Press Release from Mars

Press releases can be good for a laugh sometimes. I was bitterly disappointed with the press release for Kanye West's new album - no hysterical boasting? for shame! Yet the press release for 50 Cent proudly asks "Can the defiant former drug dealer from killer Southside Queens..." because nothing says hardcore than a drug dealer from Queens! But, moving on, the one for the Sugababes reaches new heights of hilarity. I love the gals, but whoever's working for them really needs to stop with Microsoft Word's thesaurus function. Observe:

In these boom and bust days of pop groups launching, exploding and disappearing in the night sky like fireworks on a wet Wednesday, the SUGABABES are a rare exception. Certainly, if pop’s supposed to be suffering from lean times, someone forgot to KEISHA BUCHANAN, HEIDI RANGE and AMELLE BERRABAH, as they prepare to unveil their fifth studio album. It’s the first full set in which AMELLE, having now been a SUGABABE for over a year and a half, joins KEISHA and HEIDI on vocals, adding an exciting new slant to the band’s trademark harmonies. The new, invigorated sound coupled with some unexpected changes in musical direction to open a brand new chapter for the country’s favourite girlgroup

"exploding and disappearing in the night sky like fireworks on a wet Wednesday"? What the fuck is that? And they even left out the word "tell" in the second sentence. I did also enjoy this part:

They’re also the first girl group since the 1980s to release more than three hit albums – trouncing Destiny’s Child and the Spice Girls.

Aww. And there's plenty more where that came from! You can read the rest at the PopJustice forums. Lovely.

Moving On...

This just amused me a whole bunch. I've been working for the last three hours listening to a lot of shite music (Damien Leith!) and a lot of awesome music (Rilo Kiley!) but I think this is indeed the highlight.

How I Feel About 'About You Now'

edit: I've been listening to this all day non-stop. It really is going to be one of the best songs of 2007. Fan-freakin-tastic.

It's the new Sugababes (aka the greatest pop girlband of the last decade, sorry Girls Aloud) single. It's called 'About You Now' and, well, it's nothing like their last song 'Easy', which was all about mailmen sticking mail in their mailslots (if you catch their drift). Needless to say, it's not as good "Freak Like Me". Or "Hole in the Head". Or "New Year", "Overload", or "Red Dress". But it is entirely amazing and is about as good as "Push the Button", which is a high compliment. It's certainly gunning for #1. They also trump Girls Aloud's new track "Sexy! No No No...", which was also quite great.

This is apparently the song they're going to use to "crack" America (open like a walnut) but I can't see it happening. America seems to still be obsessed with idiots who can't write, spell, sing or even speak properly (so Ammelle should fit right in - da doom ch! I'm awesome).

Unfort all we have is the radio rip, but that's better than nothing at all.

Are you a Real Girl?

You can thank me later.

Sorry about the lack of film-related stuff lately. The movie viewing has been quiet and nothing is really inspiring me that much to write. But I will eventually.

I'll be guestblogging over at Nat's Film Experience for a few days so I'll be here and there. Blah.

Now back to "Real Girl"...

Look This Way

I think I just died a little, because this is sort of the craziest / oddest / bestest / most fucked up thing I've seen in a while. My two favourite groups, the two groups who are still making good pop music - Girls Aloud and Sugababes - teaming up to do a cover version of, of all things, Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" for Comic Relief Charity. The whole thing is hilariously bonkers, but gosh, it's sort of irresistably delicious. Hard to believe some of those outfits are considered "dresses" too. Amelle (the new Sugababe, the one wearing the spangly silver outfit) is practically giving a guided tour of her fallopian tubes. "ALL ABOARD!" But, whatever. The song is a hoot.

All will be right in pop music if these two groups can stay together for as long as possible (history is against them.) What would becoming of CHERYL TWEEDY?!?!
