An Oscar Night Reunion

I know that the recent Academy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson plunged the comment sections of blogs around the world into polar opposite debate (She's a revelation! All she does is scream! yada yada yada). Many were questioning whether she should win the Academy Award for her first film, especially considering her acting future didn't seem to be as important to her as her music career (her debut album is apparently in post-production, ready to emmerge).

Some people even begged to ask whether Hudson would ever make another movie (she had no confirmed projects as of February, I believe). Well, the answer to that question folks is that yes she does indeed have more movie work in the pipeline. In fact, she's working on one right now!

Dreamgirls Downloadables

Click here to download (curtose of Kevipod) the audio of that fabulous Oscar performance by Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles and Anika Noni Rose performing the three original tracks from Dreamgirls. Listen for the power. Listen for the hystrionics. "I'm more than what-AA" lol. Beyonce, you crazy fool.

There's also this hilarious dance remix to Jennifer Hudson's version of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going". It's really really bad. Jennifer actually has the big diva voice to pull of a dance track, but this song does just not mix with tacky generic dance beats. Still, it's good for a laugh.

Dreamgirls: Pros and Cons

CONS
The silly editing of musical sequences with ordinary scenes. I don't wanna see that.

Unorganised and unstructured. Suddenly people are married and have hit records.

Weird way of doing certain musical sequences. Like, we see about 20 seconds of Jamie Foxx performing "Steppin' to the Bad Side" and then it goes into a montage of him gambling? WTF? Characters randomly deciding to sing songs off stage when there was no previous acknowledgment of this.

Too long. They needed to cut out a couple of songs.

That awful song about being a family, and being a tree that grows or something. That was really bad. And they kept reprising it!

Jamie Foxx.

PROS
Jennifer freakin' Hudson!

A bunch of about 8 musical scenes were really fantastic.

Beyonce was actually quite fine in the final act.

Jennifer Hudson!

The costumes and the glamour and the makeup. Some of those costumes were hilarious.

Jennifer Hudson!

Jesus, Beyonce looked so much like Diana Ross at times it was scary

Energetic and full of sass.

Eddie Murphy.

Jennifer Hudson!

Loretta Devine.

That shot of Beyonce during the photoshoot sequence where she was done up to have darker skin? WTF was that? Unintentional hilarity, I'm sure.

CONCLUSION
It may seem like there are more cons that pros, but the pros are pretty convincing. I think it's a B. I enjoyed it. But, yeah, that song about growing trees and families was terrible.

Jennifer Hudson for Best Supporting Actress?

Will this win her the statue?

Not quite Jennifer Holliday, but not many things are. I still don't understand why they're not even mentioning Hudson on the posters and billboards?

It sorta makes it look like Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx are pulling a To Wong Foo on us. And if Wesley Snipes showed us anything, it's that African-American actors should not dress in drag. Ever.
