Seriously. I know not all of you guys even live in New York City let alone America, but I feel like I'm letting the side down. I passionately pleaded to many people (not just on here, but throughout the internet neverworld) to see Jindabyne, but it has so far only made $150,000. Considering Lantana (only, you know, one of this decades masterpieces) made upwards of $4million in the States and that it starred Laura Linney I thought for sure that movie would've been able to carve at least a decent niche for itself. Alas...And now we come to this weekend. It's Memorial Day for Americans (whatever that means), which means most of you will fill and gorge yourself with popcorn and candy, but can I make a suggestion? If you so happen to come across a cinema playing the just-released Australian gem Ten Canoes can you, perhaps, pop in and give it a good ol' fashioned go? It's only 90 minutes long, but you get quite the bang for your buck. I mean, I am 100% certain that YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN THE HISTORY OF CINEMA!! I'm also pretty sure that YOU WON'T SEE ANYTHING LIKE THIS EVER AGAIN IN YOUR EXISTANCE!!
Maybe you can go see Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on the Friday/Saturday part of the weekend and then catch this remarkable little film on Sunday or Monday! Perhaps you could wait to see Pirates 3 until next weekend when the crowds die down a tad, and instead see Ten Canoes this weekend. As the luck with other Australian releases in America I'm sure the cinema will be near-empty.It turns out this is out in the UK on the 1st of June so this goes out to them too. But I won't feel as annoyed if it dies in the UK. I mean, I can't blame them. We've been forcing so many lame-arsed soapies onto you for decades. It's only fair.

It would help if they were going to show it. ANYWHERE. But it's not even listed for my local arthouse(s), and unless it's going to appear there two months after it's supposedly released (the longest they usually go is one month, although I suppose it's possible), it probably never will be. You can hardly blame people for not seeing things if they don't release them properly. If you don't live in London, then they don't give a damn about you.
I will, however, be able to see Jindabyne, so that's something. Greatly looking forward to that.
And just a wonderment: do you get British films often in Australia? I just wonder how represented our stuff is by comparison.
Ladies in Lavender was one was 2005's biggest box office sensations here, for some odd reason! All of those movies starring Maggie Smith/Helen Mirren/Judi Dench are big hits here.
