If ever there was a case to be made for a Best Director spot being given to the director of an animated film, this is surely it.

Really? I just saw Happy Feet too, and I didn't think it was that great. I guess it got better as it went along, even when it was starting to feel too long, but I found it to have acute filmic ADD and a huge lack of focus. Very cute, though. I loved the baby penguin voices at the beginning.
And I had to admit that it was a legitimately good film when the stuff with the humans ("aliens") started. Twas pretty subversive and socially relevant, for an animated film. And the crazy manic touches were refreshing, even though I really wanted them to just settle down and actually develop the characters a little.
I do admit, though, that I was not in the best state while watching it (catching a 7:00 show without having yet eaten dinner), so that might've had to something to do with my lack of patience for it.
But the filmic ADD didn't help any.
It's not in the same ballpark, but Happy Feet is sort of an animated kindred spirit to Moulin Rouge!
