*sigh* Can someone please make a smart, thoughtful and peaceful science fiction movie (and I mean science fiction) again. It's been so freakin' long. I thank Robert Zemeckis for giving me Contact. It makes me so happy. This is filmmaking. Powerful, thrilling, bursting at the seams with possibilities, treating it's subject with thought and care. A

I love Contact too. There was definitely a period during my teen years when I was it was fave film ever, I was OBSESSED with it and watched it like once a week. It was one of those that you could always just have on while doing other things. It made me happy.

And while it's not quite as high in my esteem today, I do own the DVD and still think very fondly on the movie. Jodie was R-O-B-B-E-D of an oscar nom for this. Easily one of her best perfs ever. Plus, if they had nominated her (another blonde American chick), they probably would've given the actual statue to someone who wasn't Helen Hunt. In fact, it was actually Helen who stole Jodie's spot. But alas...

Yeah, Contact is my second fave Jodie perf (after Silence of the Lambs). I just love this movie so much. The scenes when they discover the signal and they learn everything about it is just fascinating and then the actual development of the craft itself and... yeah. Wow.

I'm not really sure why people hate the ending. They're all like "it was her DAD?!?" and it quite clearly states that the father was just a visual vessel. But, those people are stupid, so...
