Received an e-mail today from the Australian Film Institute, about the AFI Film Festival. it's a festival that showcases all the films, documentaries, shorts and animations that were submitted for this year's AFI awards. In my AFI Predictions I said there were 16 or so titles that should be eligable, and while the number is indeed 16, some titles didn't show up (Greg McLean's Rogue, December Boys and Irresistable), but titles I had never heard of did (I said that would happen).
The 16 eligable films are:
1. 2:37
2. 48 Shades
3. The Book of Revelation
4. Candy
5. The Caterpillar Wish
6. Em 4 Jay
7. Footy Legends
8. Jindabyne
9. Kenny
10. Kokoda
11. Last Train to Freo
12. Macbeth
13. Opal Dream
14. Solo
15. Suburban Mayhem
16. Ten Canoes
I will update my predictions accordingly.
The nominees for several categories have been announced already though.
Nominees for Best Documentary (awarded to the producer/s)
Hunt Angels - Sue Maslin
Raul the Terrible - Carlos Alperin
Welcome 2 My Deaf World - Sally Ingleton
Vietnam Nurses - Beth Frey, Lizzette Atkins
Nominees for Best Short Fiction Film> (awarded to the director/s)

Way to go y'all.
For all you Academy Award watchers, keep a record of the names of the Best Short Animation category because a nominee from this category has shown up on the Oscar shortlist for the last three years (Harvey Krumpet, Birthday Boy and The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello).
I hope I get to attend as many of these screenings has possible because
a) They're free
b) I'm elligable to vote for Best Film at the AFI awards and so I wanna see as many of them as possible
c) They're free
d) My vote counts
Now, "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy" are on. Ciao!
