Me = Happy

Ya know what I love - movies getting box-office success when they really deserve. I don't mean big movies that would make big money whether they were good or bad, but smaller ones. Ones that wouldn't necessarily make that much even if they were masterpieces.

The title I am alluring to is Rolf de Heer's Ten Canoes. This movie was absolutely fantastic, and I encourage people to see it whenever they can. It does appear though that people are seeing it, which is fantastic. In it's first week it debuted at #10 with $317,916 and then in it's second week it moved up three spots to #7 with takings of $309,922 (down 3%). Now in it's third weekend it stayed at #7 and made $304,515 - that's a fall of only 2% and with only 2 extra screens! So far it has made $1,348,304, which is, quite simply put, an astounding figure for a movie of this type (half black and white, in indiginous language, subtle comedy, AUSTRALIAN). It is certainly going on to become one of the highest grossing Aussie films of the year (it'll beat Kokoda's $3mil total) and depending how well potentially successful titles such as Jindabyne, Macbeth and Footy Legends do it could be the highest. Way to go! I loves it so much.

Oh well, more tomorrow on the new release/box-office column.

In other news - I bought tickets for Rent today! Going with Hannah, Georgie and Mick. Yayz!
