Whatever

Raging Bull (1980, dir. Scorsese) - Great stuff. DeNiro is excellent although, to be honest, Joe Pesci gave my favourite perf of the film. Loved the black and white. Loved how the boxing scenes looked as if the ring was just floating in space. Yes, it was robbed by Ordinary People but that's still a good movie. A-

I can totally see why Raging Bull lost, though. It's just SO dark and dreary and in black n' white. I had trouble watching it and enjoying it when I rented it, cause I just don't go for that kind of bleakness, especially in the uber-macho-saturated world of boxing, which I'm not keen on. But it was totally a quality film.

Oh yeah, I can also see why it lost. I also don't think it losing is the biggest travesty (er, this year was pretty much the pinnacle on that account).

I don't usually go for movies like this that deal with men and violence, but I liked it.
