Poster Goodness

A good poster gets me every time.

And while this one is too big to post, I am loving the arty designs for Almodovar's Volver poster.

I have been looking over IMP's 2005 Awards. I must say I'm tres disappointed. Crash and Munich's posters were so bland (especially Munich). The one of their Best Poster nominees I would choose as the best is House of Wax. However, my personal Best Poster winner was Wolf Creek (below) with that direct image from the film of a girl on an isolated road covered in blood. Doesn't need anything else.

Must say, their Worst Poster candidates were all worthy of such honours. Ever since I first saw the poster for Prime i hated it. All that white space! Meryl with a goofy look on her face. Hilariously making sure nobody sees the guy's face because HE'S NOT FAMOUS. The tiny print of "PRIME" (speaking of which I still don't understand the name). Ugh. Horrible poster. That and Miss Congeniality 2 got Worst Poster Design from moi. Needless to say Prime won (lost) the IMP award. "Irritating and meaningless" is so true. "We have a film with Meryl, Uma, and maybe some indigestion. That's all we can tell from this poster." hah!

Batman Begins won for Best Blockbuster poster - can't disagree).
Walk the Line won for Best Teaser/Advance poster - again, can't disagree although, Saw II had a wickedly nasty poster.
Doom won (lost) for Worst Teaser/Advance poster - so horrible!
The 40-Year-Old-Virgin winning for Funniest poster is awesome. That poster is hilarious! Although I cracked a big laugh upon seeing the Dirty Love poster, however that was for all the wrong reasons.
All the nominees for Bravest poster were worthy, however I wouldn't have gone with Syriana as the winner. I didn't know this Crash Poster existed. How horrible.
House of Wax definitely deserved the Creepiest poster award, however, if they had actually used the Australian poster design for Wolf Creek in the US instead of the horrible ugly design they did use, that would've won for sure.
Sin City had a great set of character posters.
The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Syriana won Best Funny Tagline and Best Serious Tagline. Although clearly Saw II deserved the latter for it's hilarious/eepish "Oh Yes, There Will Be Blood" tagline.
Am loving Far From Heaven's win for Biggest Head Award
What the fuck does "'A magnificently thesped, engrossing melodrama about the collateral cost of altruism.'" mean?

loves it!
